About the event

Mundane Monsters by Danish artist, Kristoffer Ørum draws into one installation three speculative and humorous projects that all deal with different aspects of  the systems and creatures we live along side in a contemporary world. In this exhibition you will encounter a reimagined species of invasive Signal Crayfish that are WIFI signal hacking cyborg immigrants, giant purple habitable oysters from a future where humans live happy lives as hunter gatherers and the mythological beast that haunts the Danish city of Kolding at night.

Using a combination of augmented reality, 3d print, video, wireless transmissions and sculpture, Kristoffer summons forth everyday monstrosities from the cracks between the real and the imagined. Asking if we might find new ways of addressing the problems of our day, such as climate change, by reconsidering the relationship between what we call nature and culture. Making ourselves familiar with that which we are used to thinking of as strange and unsettling, in order to tell new stories of both the future and the past, that might enable us to change systemic issues in the present.

This exhibition was made possible through generous support from the Danish Arts Foundation.
