High Street Mural

During the summer of 2022, Epsilon Spires invited the Brattleboro community to join us in transforming a dilapidated wall on High Street into a beautiful 2280 square-foot mural that supports cultural tourism in our region and inspires a sense of co-ownership and pride in our shared public spaces. The mural, which depicts the four seasons in Vermont, was designed by local artists Calvin Laituri and Daniel Chiaccio of First Proof Press. They were assisted in painting the mural by recently resettled Afghan refugees who are members of the ArtLords, a grassroots movement based in Kabul that uses the power of art and culture to encourage social transformation.

This collaborative project was funded by raising over $8,000 of individual contributions from over 94 donors representing 13 different states and 3 countries. These donations were then matched two-to-one by a Better Places grant of $16,000 from the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development. Completed in November of 2022, we are excited for the High Street Mural to serve as an example of our region’s creative vibrancy and hope to inspire others to collectively work towards positive change in our communities.
