Epsilon Spires Sanctuary

Multimedia festival showcasing new, experimental works in a genre of Indonesian traditional music called gamelan. Artists of varying backgrounds will collaborate, forming small ensembles utilizing gamelan instruments and transforming its sound and structure with the aid of electronics.

About the event

Concerts, Film, Presentations and Participatory Workshops:

-To promote new works utilizing or inspired by Indonesian Gamelan, especially works that involve the usage of electronics.

-Establish new connections between North American and Indonesian muscians & artists. 

-Invite wild experimentation in the genre as well as make gamelan music more accessible to distinguishing listeners.

-Close the loop between major trends of gamelan and noise music in contemporary Indonesia.

Performing artists include Cordey Lopez, Hirotaka Inuzuka, and Matthew Clough-Hunter (of Gamelan Merdu Kumala from Los Angeles); Mark Cetilia and Zach Hazen (Providence, RI); Laura Cetilia (Providence, RI); and Bromp Treb aka Neil “Cloaca” Young (Northampton, MA).
