Our monthly series continues with Golmaal (topsy-turvy) a great introduction to the culture of comedy in India. The film was made in 1979 but still strikes a chord among audiences because of the believability of the characters' reactions and their respective coping mechanisms. WATCH TRAILER & FILM HERE: https://www.epsilonspires.org/bollywood
The story follows Ramprasad Dashrathprasad Sharma, a freshly graduated youth desperately looking for a job. He finds the perfect employment opportunity, but in order to impress his traditionalist boss, Bhavani Shankar, he must go old-school on his values, attire and appearance. Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, an auteur known for the sensitive and accurate portrayal of human behaviour. Mukherjee takes the patriarchal idea of facial hair as being a symbol of character in a man and weaves it into an unforgettable comedy of errors. Â
Golmaal is considered one of the top five cult comedies of Bollywood cinema. On the outset, it is a comedy of dual identities, but it's this simple plot that's moulded into witty dialogue and effortlessly humorous situations that sets it apart from other films of the same genre.Â
