June 4th, TOVE (Finland, 2021) 8pm Doors / Film begins at Sundown, 8:24. after a special introduction by Jo Dery.

Cuisine with locally-sourced ingredients by Madame Jo's Creperie of Trollhaugen Farm.

After Gallery Walk winds down and the moon begins to rise, we’ll begin our first screening this year with the critically-acclaimed new biopic of the beloved creator of the Moomins. Directed by Zaida Bergroth and featuring an incredible central performance by Alma Pöysti, TOVE is a fascinating and bewitching look into the life of one of the most celebrated and unconventional illustrators of the 20th century. With great charm, cinematic craft and a warming glow, the film follows Jansson in her early years as a struggling artist still developing her work, capturing an intimate sense of how emotional upheavals in her bohemian personal life helped shape her creative endeavours.

Jo Dery is an artist who experiments with visual storytelling. She makes animation, books and comics, works on paper, and multimedia projects. Her creative practice is rooted in drawing and writing. Her stories are inspired by folklore, memoir, and a deep love of the natural world. She is currently an Associate Professor of Film Studies at Keene State College.
