About the event
Mia Friedman's Sand Frame
Mia Friedman (voice, violin) will be joined by Andy Allen (bass clarinet) and Cale Israel (trombone) for her song cycle called Sand Frame: Four composed pieces interspersed with improvisations.
Wendy Eisenberg
Wendy Eisenberg is a guitarist, banjo-player, vocalist and poet from Turners Falls. Using the languages of free jazz, new music, metal and art song, her music challenges the representational and technical demands placed on a guitar and a banjo in contemporary music. Eisenberg will play improvisational guitar compositions about the Imbolc season. “She can play with the scattershot ferocity of a cobra striking the neck of her 1989 Japanese Jazzmaster, or as contemplative and meandering as an acoustic instrumental plucked by a fireplace inside an old Upstate, NY hostel."— RON HART, BILLBOARD
Wes Buckley psych-folk songwriter and odd instrument builder from Pittsfield, MA. Wes writes songs that nod to ageless melodies mixed with wild guitar, sound sculptures, homemade gear. Traditional, weird—Weirditional.
“if not I than who then” radical courage musical theater by Brattleboro-based multimedia artist: Jonas Fricke.
dredd foole Dan Ireton sings with one of the most electrifying post-Tim Buckley vocal chords ever heard. With homemade instruments he creates multiphonic non-traditional folk music with apocalyptic power-appeal/ personal trance-sound-vision & legitimate psychedelic space-whisper revelations.
Frozen Corn Joshua Burkett, Chris Carlton and Anthony Pasquarosa perform covers of proto-bluegrass tunes, most first recorded in Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia in the late 1920s. Their deep monotonic vocal riffs work almost like raga singing in terms of achieving "The Zone". The transportational qualities of Frozen Corn's sound cannot be overstated.
Ten Gallon Hat a super-group of sorts with varied and diverse influences.. imagine.. No Neck Blues Band meets ZZ Top and with Merle Haggard hanging out in a early 2000's pickup truck... or a Buffalo Springfield tribute band assembled by an alternate universe... Featuring Andy Allen (Hollow Deck) on drums, Sam Potrykus ( Needy Visions, Negative One) on vocals, Mickey O'hara (Lean) on bass, & Adam Kohl (Arkm Foam) on guitar.
HUNG TRUCKER is a plush toy alligator cruising some kind of Claymation stripmall in a ‘98 Celica convertible listening to a tape of Warren Beatty reading the Starr Report in a five-dimensional machine language. They are a band playing “songs” that are programmed to self-destruct upon hearing them. Often compared to the Velvet Underground, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Waylon Jennings, Thirteenth Floor Elevators, Almond Butter, Candlebox, R.L Stine, Orville Redenbacher, Loggins & Messina, Perry Ellis, Perry Mason, Sperry Top-Siders, and little-known outsider artists such as Lil’ Henry Kissinger and Prince, HUNG TRUCKER is a force to be reckoned with in the competitive world of imaginary real estate. Possession is impossible, everything we think belongs to us is a dream, even our own selves, but HUNG TRUCKER is here to sell you a whole new suit of clothes and put you on that cruise in style.
