About the event

Lubbert Gnodde (1977) was born in Urk, The Netherlands. He studied with Jacques van Oortmerssen at the Conservatory of Amsterdam where he obtained his Bachelor and Master degrees in organ with honours. Additional studies include three months with Michel Bouvard in Paris as well as a study in Lyon, France with Louis Robilliard, which was completed with honours as well.

Lubbert won first prizes in several organ competitions. Among these are the International Schnitger Organ Competition in Alkmaar, Holland, where he obtained the first prize with honours in 2005, with an additional mention ‘exceptional’ for the second round played on the Van Covelens organ from the year 1511. In 2007 first prize was won in the International César Franck competition in Haarlem. Performing experience consists of many organ recitals in Holland, Europe and the USA, as well as concerts with instrumentalists and choirs. He was a recitalist at OHS conventions in 2013 and 2015. Lubbert Gnodde was organist of the St. Augustinus Church in Amsterdam until 2009, playing a Cavaillé-Coll organ from 1881. In 2009 Lubbert and his family moved to Pomfret, Vermont where he is organist of Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Woodstock, Vermont.

In 2010 he started working with organ builder A. David Moore in Pomfret, Vermont, where he became an expert pipemaker and voicer, specializing in 19th century traditions. Since 2018 he has his own organ building business, specializing in traditional organ building. He is currently starting his third major organ renovation project. Our event image is of a current organ restoration project, repairing the Casavant Frères opus 3371, 1977, at Trinity Canadian Reformed Church, Caledonia, ON Canada.
