JUXTAPOSITION JUBILEE: Collage Workshop!

Join us for a multi-media participatory workshop on how to use existing printed media to create new works of art. Local artists will guide you on how they approach making collages out of old books and repurposed magazines using specific techniques you can easily replicate (and alter) to make your own. We'll experiment with how to build layers and incorporate various textures and materials and learn about the “assemblage” technique, using collected and found objects to tell new stories. As they emerge, our assemblages may be based on a personal memory, narrative, or conceptual/abstract inspirations. We will also discuss how this artistic process not only identifies and exposes not-so-subtle efforts at social conditioning in media, but also empowers participants to weaponize absurdity and form emergent counter-narratives that are liberating and fun.
