Christin Ripley: Nature/Nurture Exhibition
Fri, Sep 18
|Sanctuary Gallery
Ripley’s handpainted textiles are sewn and upholstered into sculpture, furniture and functional objects. Applying the philosophy that the artist is not the driving force or branding of a product, but one hand of many that make possible for an idea to manifest in the material world.

About the event
Nature/Nurture asks: “What has your path in life looked like? How much control did you have despite your environment?”
For this exhibition, has made a series of interactive soft sculptures that tie into Brent Birnbaum’s boardgame collages similtaniously on view in our balcony gallery. The textile sculptures resemble meditation pillows encouraging people to sit and reflect while looking at the collages and listening to the sounds resonating within the architecture of the sanctuary. The soft forms imitate shapes of boardgame pathways, with interlocking and looping shapes that can be nestled together to create a winding egress shape, or pulled apart to reference individual board game pathway tiles. The fabrics are hand-dyed in pastel-primary-colorways reflecting the hues of light cast from the stained glass windows.Christin Ripley
