Brent Birnbaum: Nature/Nurture Exhibition
Fri, Sep 18

Birnbaum embarks on projects that challenge him mentally and physically by collecting and repurposing a difficult quantity of an absurd material. Inspired equally by historical narrative and the readymade materials in it's wake, he is on a quest to discover and create life’s unseen angles

About the event
Nature/Nurture asks: “What has your path in life looked like? How much control did you have despite your environment?”
Brent Birnbaum’s work practice begins by scanning the world for found objects that have not been used in an art context and contain potential to be manipulated into something new and powerful. He strives to surprise and captivate the viewer by expanding upon the contemporary art dialogue. The familiarity of his medium creates accessibility to a wide audience, as does the humor embedded in the work. Opening Friday September 18th, and available by Appointment through our Contact Form.
Birnbaum received his MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and a BFA from the University of North Texas in Denton. Birnbaum has an extensive exhibition history including solo museum shows at Museum Wilhelm Morgner in Soest, Germany and Casino Luxembourg in Luxembourg City. He is represented in New York City by Denny Dimin Gallery where he has had two solo exhibitions.
Two books have been published on Birnbaum and his work has been featured in The New York Times, Hyperallergic, The Paris Review, New York Magazine’s Vulture, and Artforum, among other publications.
