About the event
Preshow Performance by Son of Earth-Flesh on Bone Trio, which began life in January 2000. After a series of hermetic and spirited late-night sessions, Aaron Rosenblum, Matt Krefting, and John Shaw began to play out using unusual arrays of sound-making devices. As this century wears on, the group continues to chisel away and render their once-maximalist sound as a murmur that flirts with texture and atmosphere; a music made from almost nothing.
Begotten was shot in black and white on 16mm reversal film, then rephotographed frame by frame through neutral-density filters. The process took four years and roughly ten hours of work for every finished minute. The image was worked by hand through repeated exposure and filtration until the grain itself began to move like an atmospheric condition, thickening the dark and tearing open the light.
