(1973, 95 mins) reevaluates the horror film genre, infusing it with satiric wit and camp sexuality. Maverick Paul Morrissey was an underground and trash cinema legend, originally collaborating with Andy Warhol on such films as Chelsea Girls, Morrissey brought character, dialogue, and plot to Warhol’s cinematic experiments before striking out on his own in the mid-1970s. His films defy easy categorization as they employ elements from cult cinema, cinema verité, a drugged-out version of melodrama, improv, and a heavy-reliance on the charisma of his cavalcade of Factory Superstars, including trans-trailblazers Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling, and Jackie Curtis.
