Join us this Mardi Gras season for ALWAYS FOR PLEASURE by acclaimed documentary filmmaker, Les Blank. For multisensorial delight this event will feature a multi-course Cajun/Creole feast by Bon Couillon!
An uncompromisingly independent filmmaker, Les Blank made documentaries for nearly fifty years, elegantly disappearing with his camera into cultural spots rarely seen on-screen—mostly on the peripheries of the United States, but also occasionally abroad. Seemingly off-the-cuff yet poetically constructed, these films are humane, sometimes wry, always engaging tributes to music, food, and all sorts of regionally specific ecstasies and communal enjoyments.
Bon Couillon is the passion project of Drew Stephan, who came to love Cajun food after moving to South Louisiana in 2007. Enamored by big flavors, deep culinary history, and rich cultural intersections, he began exploring the ways in which food, music, art, and storytelling formed and strengthened community in the bayous, prairies, and towns of Cajun country.
