Weather Station Buttercup
Installed in our bell tower, the Weather Warlock is a large analog synthesizer which is controlled completely by the weather and employs sun, rain, wind, temperature, moon, and lightning to affect an F major drone chord with special sonic events occurring at sunrise and sunset.

“Weather for the blind” is a project addressing a circadian rhythm sleep disorder suffered by many sight impaired persons. Our hope is that this instrument could be of some help to those experiencing any type of sleep disorder or to anyone suffering from stress or health issues which might benefit from a direct musical connection to nature.
Four other active Weather Warlocks have been built in the United States—one in New Orleans, another in Miami Florida, one at the Wave Farm in Acra New York, and a touring instrument. Each one of these unique instruments is customized to the local climate and specific location of the sensors.

This public mural presents the visual narrative of a linear form that wanders and meanders across an imperfect surface, playfully encountering forms and improvising patterns that it encircles and weaves through and over.
Kim Carlino is a Northampton-based interventionist who uses the language of painting and drawing to improvise and intuitively build the composition of her murals. Her artistic process explores the evolutionary nature of mark making and the complex relationships of solidarity and contradiction between color, geometry, line and form. Carlino’s work playfully employs shifts of scale, opticality, illusion and disillusion of space to create a nonlinear construction of time in hopes of finding equanimity within disparate elements, ultimately using abstraction as a metaphor for navigation between balance and imbalance.
